Artist Bio *
Born and raised in Guangzhou, China, Qi Yang began her artistic journey as a classical ballet dancer, training intensively from the age of four through sixteen. In 2016, she discovered flamenco and began her studies with Ryan Zemeño and Alex Rozo, marking a pivotal shift in her artistic path. Since 2017, Qi has traveled extensively to Madrid, Sevilla, and Jerez de la Frontera to deepen her flamenco training, immersing herself in the art form at its source.
Qi is a regular participant in both Festival Flamenco Albuquerque and Festival de Jerez, where she has studied with numerous renowned flamenco artists. In 2023, she was selected as a finalist in Flamenco Certamen USA, earning First Prize at the Estudio level. In 2025, Qi joined Blackbird Dance Company under the direction of Aliesha Bryan, performing in the production At the Piano at the Arts on Site Blackbox Theater in downtown Manhattan.
Now based in Fairfield, Connecticut, Qi maintains an active presence in the New York City dance community. She continues her flamenco studies with Fanny Ara, Xianix Barrera, and Isaac Tovar, while expanding her artistic language through contemporary dance training with Lorena Cobos at Broadway Dance Center. Through her work, Qi bridges traditions, geographies, and movement languages, forging an evolving practice rooted in both cultural reverence and personal expression.
